YouTube Wednesday with Poles

Wow. Just... wow. Up until now I thought pole dancing was an eye sore when done by males, but this gentleman just convinced me otherwise.

Then again it might be the leather trousers. I love the leather trousers.

Youtube Wednesday with 'Avatar' trailer

Ladies and gentlemen, with this I would like to announce the next flick I'm watching in theater. Come join me!

YouTube Wednesday with AMVs

By far one of the best AMVs I've seen out there. It's good enough to make Shinji actually look like a man! The song is Gong by JAM, the anime is (of course) Neon Genesis Evangelion and the whole thing was made by FakerEMIYA. Enjoy!

YouTube Wednesday with Metal A Capella

van Canto is a 2006 founded German band composed of five singers and one drummer, and as far as I know, the first to sing the so-called a capella metal. This Battery cover is from their debut album, A Storm to Come. It's interesting to notice that on their a capella performance they actually imitate instruments instead of notes. If you go to the Wikipedia page about them, you will see some of their members are in charge of the "rakkatakka" vocals, the "dandan" vocals and the "wahwah" solo guitar vocals. For me, the cover is flawless and it's an interesting piece to check out.

YouTube Wednesday the Bouncing Tire Song

Haha! Oh wow... I love The Smoking Gun...

YouTube Wednesday with Retro Toons

On my last log, I told you a little about Fire and Ice. Along with a trailer for it, I'd like to tell you a little more in this YouTube Wednesday. I loved it when I was a kid: it's a cartoon about a group of heroes' struggle against an overlord who wants to cover the world in glaciers. Ralph Bashki directed and wrote it in 1983, a work somewhat different from his previous movies. See, Bashki worked especially in social comment before... batshit social comment. Hey Good-Lookin', debuting in 1982, was set in the 50's society, and Fritz the Cat, by far his most well-known piece, came out in 1972 and satirized all of the 60's decade. It was also the most disturbing thing I ever looked at after Meet the Feebles.

As for Fire and Ice, it has pretty awesome voice acting (anime dubbers of today, eat your heart out!) and had character and art conception by Frank Frazetta, one of the great fantasy illustrators out there especially as Ice Age stuff is concerned (he did Conan the Barbarian-inspired art), so it's worth a view. If you get the time, take a look at it.

YouTube Wednesday with Anabela de Malhadas

And you didn't think radio show hosts ever had a hard time...

YouTube Wednesday with 'Dirty Jobs'

I try to remember this show's episode every time I think I have a shitty job...

YouTube Wednesday with Jacko... Sort of.

Some things fit so right together it's almost spooky, isn't it?

YouTube Wednesday with the Marx Brothers

The Marx Brothers were huge back before movies were made in color. Their comedy was based on wordplay, random silliness and stand-up-ish monologues. They also sang and danced and most of them played at least one musical instrument. Talk about a real artist! This clip is from Animal Crackers (1030), one of my favorite movies by them. Classical comedy, make sure to check it out. Have a nice Wednesday.

YouTube Wednesday with Eddie Izzard

...HAHA... oh wow... aha....

YouTube Wednesday with... Retro Anime!

If you know more than three, you're either a fanboy or old. While I don't know most, all of them make a rather agreeable background noise when you're writing comic relief.

YouTube Wednesday with Yoshida Brothers

Current favorite fuckin' song. Absolutely epic. I love shamisen music, and this is by far one of the best I've heard as of late. And since finding a physical album of theirs in Portugal is as likely as finding schrapnel-flavored gum, stealing the discography in 5...

YouTube Wednesday with Space Hippies

Space hippies, crow help us. Although, if that is how Vulcans play the harp, one can only imagine what they can do with an electric guitar...

Can you imagine a Vulcan picking up a harp and saying to another, "My peer, listen to this out of ordinary set of notes composed specifically to leave an impression on the female counterparts of our kind." Also, if you're wondering where the drums are coming from (like Jandeku did), notice Mr. Zulu is tapping the panel. Also, did anyone else notice they replaced whatever the girl was playing with a bicycle wheel? I could make another twenty jokes with this clip. Like "Playing in tune. The final frontier". But I'm busy looking for a torrent for the original first season, so if anyone else has a joke here, feel free to share.

YouTube Wednesday with X-Men in the 90's

So, my good people... X-Men Origins: Wolverine is on very soon. Are we hyped yet? I am - too much for my own good. While seeking trailers, I stumbled upon this little gem.

Ah, 90's cartoons. Notice how Storm actually has a more or less African accent and they tried to give Gambit a fake French accent as well. And Wolverine actually does sound like a chain smoker. I miss these cartoons, you know? In fact, isn't there a torrent anywhere...?

YouTube Wednesday with horror movies

This is a trailer for a horror flick I enjoyed watching a few years ago. It's Jacob's Ladder, a fine movie made in 1991 which is a pain in the ass to get outside the Internet, at least in national territory. It was a main inspiration for several levels in Silent Hill 3 and it's, as we say in the business, fucked up.

If you manage to get it, take a while to watch, especially if you like Silent Hill in general. The movie is a lot like it.

18 March 2009

YouTube Wednesday with Castlevania

I just finished Castlevania: Lament of Innocence today... and tried Joachim, I hate that albino bastard. I must say, however, the bosses are extremely easy safe for the Forgotten One and the last motherfucker. Actually, the last motherfucker was tougher still than the Forgotten One... and speaking of which, take a good gander at this beast.

Not the toughest boss I've faced in this game... but the best fight I've had visually, by far.

YouTube Wednesday with Dethklok

You may notice (or not) YouTube Wednesday was out of its normal place these weeks. This is deliberate, as today is Jandeku's birthday: as such, here's for best wishes and a little private joke on my part with this week's clip.

Dethklok is a virtual band, not unlike Gorillaz, created by Brandon Small and drummer Gene Hoglan for the Adult Swim show Metlocalypse (which I advise everyone to see if you like to poke fun at metal band stereotypes), and they have written the ultimate birthday song as shown below. Happy Birthday, Jandeku, you're gonna die.

(Edit Mar 5: As was pointed out by Holkie on comments, it was Brandon Small and Tommy Blacha who created the band.)

11 February 2009

YouTube Wednesday with More Queen

I bet nobody ever heard this one. Let Me Entertain You is Queen from 1978, the album is Jazz. The song is sister to some of Queen's most beloved hits: Don't Stop Me Now, Fat Bottomed Girls and Bicycle Race. Finding the right clip for it is a pain in the neck, this is the best I could find: a series of live performances.

YouTube Wednesday: Going Slightly Mad

When the outside temperature rises
And the meaning is oh so clear
One thousand and one yellow daffodils
Begin to dance in front of you - oh dear
Are they trying to tell you something
You're missing that one final screw
You're simply not in the pink my dear
To be honest you haven't got a clue

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - ooh oh
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Oh dear

I'm one card short of a full deck
I'm not quite the shilling
One wave short of a shipwreck
I'm not my usual top billing
I'm coming down with a fever
I'm really out to sea
This kettle is boiling over
I think I'm a banana tree
Oh dear

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened - happened
It finally happened - uh huh
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Oh dear

Ooh ooh ah ah
Ooh ooh ah ah
I'm knitting with only one needle
Unraveling fast its true
I'm driving only three wheels these days
But my dear how about you

I'm going slightly mad
I'm going slightly mad
It finally happened
It finally happened - oh yes
It finally happened
I'm slightly mad
Just very slightly mad

And there you have it...
